Nieuw hotel in Langeveen voor insecten
Vrijwilligers hebben een schitterend nieuw ontwerp insectenhotel geplaatst in Langeveen. De Vogelwerkgroep Geesteren krijgt gelukkig steeds vaker verzoeken om een ‘hotel’ voor insecten te bouwen en te plaatsen ergens in de gemeente Tubbergen en soms daar buiten. Een groeiend aantal mensen is zich bewust van het feit dat er steeds minder insecten voorkomen in de natuur en willen daar iets aan doen. Insecten zijn een belangrijke bron van voedsel voor vogels. Gaat het slecht met de insecten, dan gaat het ook slecht bijvoorbeeld met onze weidevogels.

Baksteen
Op de foto plaatsen Marcel Mensink, Theo Lohuis en Gerard Lenferink (v.l.n.r.) het insectenhotel dat vol zit met allerlei materiaal als dennenappels, schors, takjes, stammetjes vol gaten en zelfs een baksteen. Voor alle kleine diertjes is er een prachtig, passend plekje te vinden.
Gratis
Zo’n insectenhotel kopen en plaatsen kost ongeveer 225 euro, aldus coördinator Theo Lohuis van de timmerploeg. Deze ploeg bouwt jaarlijks zo’n 800 nestkastjes, voederbakken en onderkomens voor uilen en vleermuizen. De hechte groep vrijwilligers bezoekt regelmatig basisscholen met een aanhanger vol bouwpakketten voor nestkastjes. Samen met de jeugd timmeren de vrijwilligers op een middag tientallen nestkasten in elkaar. De kinderen mogen hun zelf gebouwde kunstwerkjes, voorzien van hun namen, gratis meenemen naar huis.
